What Scouts Do
Young people in the Scout Association take part in an exciting programme of activities from climbing, archery and water sports to coding, orienteering and night hikes . They develop character skills like resilience, initiative and tenacity; employability skills such as leadership, teamwork and problem solving; and practical skills like cooking and first aid. This is all done in a fun and adventurous way to keep the young people engaged whilst giving them the opportunity to experience new challenges.

Skills for life
As Scouts, we believe in preparing young people with skills for life.
We encourage our young people to do more, learn more and be more.
Each week, the Scout Association give over 460,000 young people the opportunity to enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed, now and in the future.
We’re talking about teamwork, leadership and resilience – skills that have helped Scouts become everything from teachers and social workers to astronauts and Olympians.
We believe in bringing people together. We celebrate diversity and stand against intolerance, always. We’re part of a worldwide movement, creating stronger communities and inspiring positive futures.
By 2023 we will have prepared more young people with skills for life, supported by amazing leaders delivering an inspiring programme. We will be growing, more inclusive, shaped by young people and making a bigger impact in our communities.
We are proud to say we are a values-based movement. Our Scout values of integrity, respect, care, belief and cooperation guide everything we do.
Volunteer today
Whether it is an hour a week, a month or a day a year, there are various volunteering opportunities both behind the scenes and directly supporting young people. Roles range from committee members to parent helper or uniformed leaders. Full training and support is provided for the roles, volunteers from a range of backgrounds are welcome and you do not previoulsy have to have been a Scout.
Volunteering is rewarding, fun and also skills learnt are transferable to other areas of your life for example the work place.
Part of Scouting’s mission statement is to help young people achieve their full, physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as respected members of their local, national and international communities. Being a volunteer means you can assist in making a difference.
